Law students are something of a different species. Though NYU Law students are a diverse bunch in many ways, there are traits and common understandings we come to share as we go through this journey together. As they say, above all, law school teaches students how to think like lawyers. It all develops very naturally, gradually, almost insidiously. Maybe it was when your friend from college came into town for the weekend, clearly assuming you could go three days without doing a lick of work whatsoever. 1L Year – How to Succeed
All first year law students are required to attend two advocacy events, one based in trial advocacy and one based in appellate advocacy, to expose them to various aspects of the litigation process and prepare them for upper level courses. Please note: All students entering law school during the academic year will have two years to complete these requirements. In the event you have yet to complete both portions by the two year deadline, your class rank will be withheld at that time until both requirements are satisfied.
First, each student must fulfill the 1L Trial Advocacy Requirement by serving as a juror at one of the final trials given as part of the Trial Practice courses or other approved mock trial event. First year students are given an opportunity to observe a full-length trial and to render a verdict.

Bookstore Charge Account: You will not be able to buy books for your fall classes until you are registered, as different professors use different textbooks. Once you know which books you need, you will want to get your books prior to the start of classes, so that you can prepare for your first classes.
The University establishes a charge account at the bookstore for each law student at the time of registration. If you would prefer not to use the bookstore charge account and avoid this charge on your tuition bill, you will need to take action.

To ensure a fulfilling experience, we intentionally assign substantive, challenging and billable work aimed to develop and broaden skills.
